My name is Petrea M. I recently saw an American Lung Association commercial about vaping and collapsed lungs, and I felt compelled to share my story.
I am 26 years old, an ECMO survivor, and I suffer from chronic asthma and Vaper’s Lung. Many people find it hard to believe that someone my age can be so sick.
On September 19, 2022, both of my lungs collapsed, leading to life support. I was placed on ECMO and in a coma for 10 days—all because I vaped for just one year. I had a 3% chance of survival, but I made it. Sadly, not everyone is as fortunate.
Today, I am a mother to a beautiful baby boy, and my life has taken a positive turn. Sharing my story is important to me because if it can save even one life, it will be worth it.
Vaping isn’t discussed enough, and I strongly believe it should be banned. Seeing teenagers vaping breaks my heart.
